About Me

Kim Riley

When a life-limiting diagnosis enters a family’s world, things can feel overwhelming and uncertain. I offer grounded, compassionate support through skilled advocacy and family systems navigation—helping families find clarity, connection, and steadiness in the midst of emotional chaos.

My work centers on making sure each voice is heard and each step forward feels supported. This work resonates deeply with me; I believe it’s my calling.

Our culture often avoids conversations about death, teaching us to fear or deny it. I aim to bring meaning, joy, and healing through legacy work, storytelling, memory-sharing, honest conversations, and reconciliation.

As a spiritual person I embrace all cultures, religious requests and death rituals that are important to my clients. My approach is family-centered – whether that means biological or chosen family – and I honor each person’s thoughts and questions. As an experienced advocate and skilled communicator, I help clients and their support networks plan and experience the end of life in a way that aligns with their values and wishes.

I live in Calgary with my partner and enjoy time with my two young adult children and our curious dogs, Maple and Daisy. I’m a passionate gluten-free baker and home chef, always experimenting in the kitchen. The earth grounds me, so I fill my bucket by having my hands in dirt and gardening daily

My skills, experience and education include:

  • Certificate of Completion from the
    Death Doula Program, Douglas College
  • Certified member in good standing with
End of Life Doula Association of Canada (EOLDAC)
  • Ambassador for workshop delivery of Canadian Bestseller: “Hope for the Best, Plan for the Rest”
    • I offer  workshops outlining the 7 steps after receiving a life limiting diagnosis. This book has been lauded Canada-wide as a briiliant support to the palliative process.
  • MAiD advocate and support during the process
  • Over 25 years in non-profit and government social service programs serving children, youth and families
  • Death Café Facilitator
    • Helping to increase literacy and understanding of death and dying. Typically an informal discussion with the participants about where they are with their end of life planning and offering ideas and suggestions to move forward. Always results in a robust discussion.
  • Trained Volunteer, Companion Program at Hospice Calgary.
